A Guide from Wild Oath Photography | Hervey Bay Maternity Photographer
"When is the best time to have maternity photos taken?"
The short answer? I recommend booking your session between 30 and 36 weeks of pregnancy.
By this stage, your beautiful bump has a lovely round shape, but you're usually still comfortable enough to walk, move, and enjoy your session without feeling too tired.
Every pregnancy is different, though, and that's why I always encourage expecting mums to get in touch early so we can find the timing that's right for you.
Why 30–36 Weeks?
This is often considered the "sweet spot" for maternity photography.
Your body has changed beautifully as you prepare to welcome your baby, but you're generally still able to move around comfortably and enjoy those quiet moments during your session.
Many mums also tell me they feel the most connected to their pregnancy during this stage. Your baby's little kicks are becoming familiar, the nursery is coming together, and everything suddenly starts to feel very real.
These are the moments worth remembering.

What If I'm Having Twins or a High-Risk Pregnancy?
If you're expecting twins or have been told you may deliver earlier than expected, I recommend booking your maternity session a little sooner—around 28–32 weeks.
Every pregnancy is unique, so if you're unsure, I'm always happy to chat and help you choose the perfect time.

"I have no idea what to wear!"
Please don't stress—I have you covered.
My Bloom, Stardust and Moonlit maternity packages include access to my growing client wardrobe, featuring beautiful gowns chosen to photograph beautifully in the soft light of sunset.
I also recommend earthy tones, flowing fabrics, and avoiding large logos or busy patterns so the focus stays exactly where it should—on you and your growing family.
"Can My Partner and Children Join?"
Absolutely.
In fact, I encourage it.
Your maternity session isn't just about your bump—it's about the story of your family before your newest little love arrives.
Some of my favourite images are the quiet cuddles, little hands resting on Mum's tummy, and the excitement shared between siblings waiting to become a big brother or sister.
These moments are often the ones families treasure most.
Why Sunset?
This beautiful golden light creates soft, warm tones that perfectly suit the relaxed, storytelling style of Wild Oath Photography.
There's something magical about slowing down as the sun sets—children can run and explore, couples naturally connect, and those genuine moments unfold without feeling rushed.
"Photography became so much more than taking beautiful pictures for me.
After losing my son, Oliver, I learned just how quickly life can change.
It reminded me that every season deserves to be remembered—not because we expect anything to happen, but because time has a way of moving far too quickly.
That's why I photograph maternity sessions with so much heart.
This chapter may not feel beautiful every day, and that's okay. I struggled through my pregnancies too, but I'm so grateful I captured them. Those photographs remind me of my strength, the life my body created, and the love that existed long before my babies were in my arms. One day, they'll look at those images and smile, knowing, "I was in there."
Photographs allow you to hold onto those memories forever."
